Walleye fishing and mayfly hatch?

Posted on Nov 20, 2009 under Walleye Fishing | 5 Comments

I am going to Lake Kab (Voyageurs National Park) in July and have been told that the mayflies could be in full hatch mode the week we will be there. Is it hopeless to try and catch walleyes when the mayflies are hatching?

Wiki How-To has some good fishing info for the beginner.
Maybe get a guide if you are not familiar with the lake.
Frank House is one I have used, he has lived on Lake Kabetogama his entire life and is a great guide. Blog at http://mnoutside.com has some fishing tips.

If you have a boat you can’t go wrong with a worm or leech on a lindy rig or bottom bouncer. Trolling cranks at various depths should also get you into a few. Good luck man!
