the 13′ dory should make an excellent fishing boat for big lakes, and protected coastal areas.
dory’s have been used for fishing for a lot of years. they were even used on old whaling boats.
hope this helps

The “dory” is a very old , traditional style of boat . It’s flat bottom makes it a very stable design. Not like a round bottom boat , that is prone to roll.
13 ft is very short . I might say too short , to be useful , and 25 hp motor seems like too much motor for such a small craft. I’d think that 18-20 ft would be a more practical length.

Dories are funny boats, and there’s a lot of variation. The St. Pierre dory is a heavily-built boat that is seaworthy as hell. A Grand Banks-style dory was mostly popular because it was stackable when you removed the thwarts. A river dory is built to take impacts and remain upright even when full of water.
25hp is overpowered for a 13-foot dory, though, regardless, with the exception of a St. Pierre, mostly because they’re made of wood and built heavy.
I like them because you can always row home, and they’re good sea boats for the most part. Next to the Eastporter design (a modified dory), they’re my favorite class of small boat.
