best boats for going fishing in the ocean?
Posted on Oct 26, 2009 under Fishing Boats | 5 Commentsim planing on buying a boat but im not sure what kind i should get i want a good fishing boat for almost anything that could happen any suggestions?
I am totally sold on Boston Whalers. You just can’t sink ‘em. I will never forget the photo of a "Whaler" cut into thirds with two or three BIG guys standing in each section of the boat and they are ALL still afloat. To me, that’s security. When a boat sinks at sea, you are a VERY hard to find tiny dot in a BIG ocean by even the best of rescue teams. A Boston Whaler will NOT sink, you CAN stay out of the water, and you WILL be found. You can take a LOT of comfort from knowing that basic fact. I do!

There are so many choices. My friend in Jax, Fla., has a Cape Horn with twin evinrudes that does the deep water real good.

For ocean fishing a boat’s size does matter. The bigger the boat the better the fishing experience. Start with anything over 30ft ,motor or sail, and the reason to include sail is economy. Gas or diesel is not going to get any cheaper so remember that as you compare models.
One of the best inshore motor yaughts is Chris-Craft

Another and more top of the line off shore is Bertram

Ther are a lot of great boats out there right now for sale so shop around for some great deals.

Different boats are best for different types of fishing. Are you fishing inshore or offshore, are you fishing in cold weather like for salmon in the pacific northwest, or in warm areas like in the gulf? Anchored, drifting, or trolling? What size boat, inboard or outboard motors, how many people, livewell/bait tank, etc? Are you looking for a new boat or a used one?
I suggest you check out the boats people use in your area for the type of fishing you want to do, and ask them specific questions, like what they like or dislike about their boats.
A boat is a big investment (both money and time), so make sure you get all the input you can about the specific kind of boat YOU want, and not what people from all over the country (or world) think is best for the fishing they’re doing.
