How good are the Sevylor fishing boats?
Posted on Aug 12, 2009 under Fishing Boats | 2 CommentsI’ve been looking at the 9foot 2inch Sevylor fish hunter. If anybody has used this raft or knows someone who has let me know. And recommendations on other inflatable rafts would be appreciated.
My experience with Sevylor has been horrible. While I have not used that particular model, if it is anything like there rest of their products, they puncture easily, develop leaks and tears easily. I have owned a number of their different rafts and the result was always the same. An example on a Sevylor raft….My girlfriend and I were fishing a coastal lake when the wind picked up. Here comes a storm. We got blown/drifted into an area that has submerged trees. Drifting over the trees we started developing leaks in the raft and losing air. I tell you what, it is scary as hell when a storm blows in and your raft starts to sink. We made it to shore without having to swim for it….barely,
A buddy of mine bought a Zodiac inflatable from a garage sale for fifty bucks. It was older, but so what. It is rugged, rigid and it doesn’t lose air. It has wood panels that are placed in the floor so you don’t feel like you are sinking into the raft. After many summers and uses his garage sale, old school Zodiac is still going strong. Zodiac has long been considered the best manufacturer of inflatables out there. If you can go with a Zodiac it is what I would recommend.
