it depends on how much you fish and what type of reel you’re looking for Spinning reel or a Baitcast reel- it’s all about what you like best, but honestly baitcast are way better… over all for reels Abu Garcia, Quantum, and Shimano are the best and as for rods, Kistler Rods are one of a kind. They have rods for every kind of fishing…Crankbait, jig, worm- you name it they have it!! Good luck, hope you catch a big one!!

Well, for 50 bucks max, you can get an ugly stick combo. Some other combos to consider are Shakespeare, Zebco, and Rhino. These are NOT the best brand rods and reels, but they are what you can get for up to 50 bucks. With 20 more bucks there are some Quantum, Daiwa, and Bass pro Shops brand combos you can get. They are on the lower end (speaking of quality), but they are fairly good set-ups.

Its gonna be sorta hard to find good tackle for $50 bucks. You might find a decent "ugly Stick" for a rod, they are reasonable and well worth the money. As far as a reel goes, I prefer "Penn" reels.I live at the coast and fish saltwater, but the a small Penn is a little expensive but not that much. They are sure worth the money.Good Luck! And remember, its not all about the brand, its what feels good to you.

You asked for the BEST…
G. Loomis…hands down and everyone knows it.
reels…I prefer the Abu Garcia Revo. Can’t go wrong with the Calcutta TE series…if you want the best in technology, craftsmanship, and functionality regardless of price.
For 50 bucks? You can’t get either rod or reel.
You might as well go with an ugly stik (on clearance at some shops) and some cheapo quantum/shakespeare.

Its not about the rod…its about the presentation. With that price range however, find something at Walmart that feels right and you should be set. Just treat your pole right and it should do its job for a long time.

The Browning spinning combos from bass pro shops work very well and cost about $36 sometimes cheaper if you catch them on sale. Goodluck and Happy Fishin’
