Why do guys get uptight during fishing, camping, hunting trips, making it feel less like a vacation?
Posted on Aug 27, 2009 under Fishing Trips | 7 CommentsI tend to like lazy vacations, but sometimes I go with guys fishing and stuff, and there’s usually one or two that seem more tense about getting out there and conquering two or three times a day than just relaxing and possibly just sitting around the cabin. They seem to judge those that hang back and those that tell them "relax, we’re on vacation."
What’s up with this and how to deal with it?
Maybe it’s the "I am the male, so I am supposed to hunt meat and provide" mentality flaring up. Or maybe it’s that guys whose days are usually filled with meetings, going to the gym, etc. just don’t know how to relax. The best way to deal with it might be ahead of time. You could take the person aside and say, "Look, we’re considering this vacation to be our chance to get away and relax; really take it easy. We don’t have a big agenda and may spend time just sitting around the cabin. If that doesn’t sound like a fun time to you, you might want to consider getting a different cabin, or taking a separate vacation." Good luck.

Because we make it to be this amazing thing that our expectations never live up to.. then it pisses us off. best example of this National lampoons European , vegas, christmas, and summer vacation movies.. they are awesome but thats why!

different people are different — if you can’t respect each others differences then you should find other vacation friends.
nobody should be telling other people what they should and shouldn’t do on vacation — thats what a vacation should be about. i like active vacations and would never go for a fish vacation. give me a week in a canoe any day.

I think the problem is women don´t like to do a lot of activities men like, especially on vacations.
When we go out fishing, we enjoy setting up the rod, grabbing a cold beer and talking about nothing with a friend. Women normally don´t see the fun in this.
Sometimes women just don´t do what we do and viceversa.
I don´t like to go shopping, my wife love it.
I don´t like to get a suntan, my wife can be under the sun for hours.
That is just how it is.

Because this type of activities are "guy thing" and if they can’t get anything done, they feel like they are losers.

Never experienced such a thing. Though, I can see why I’d want to get out and do things. I tend to kick back and relax most days after work. Spending plenty of time just sitting around the house. The last thing I’d want to on a vacation is just sit around.
Maybe on the beach girl watching or something, but otherwise, no sitting around. Lots of sleeping, though.
