I heard your not really supposed to eat goliath groupers because of the mercury levels in them. Is this true or false?

Never experienced this size of a fish but “Toresben” if u dont have the line tight, that size of fish or any bigger fish for that matter will snap the line of in a heartbeat, thats why u always gotta have the line tight

Nice Goliath Grouper. You are no longer allowed to pull them out of the water if you catch them from a boat. They are a protected species [state of FL] and must be let free.

I’ve read numerous responses to your catching Goliath Groupers. It appears most responders are uninformed of your catch and release agenda. Catching fish is a sport, not torture. I was raised on fishing in the Sarasota area, to include Goliath Groupers. However, I currently live in southwest Texas, I plan to move back to the Sarasota area in a few years and get right back in the swing of catching fish. Keep up the good work and don’t let the uneducated discourage you.

the caught fish is probably older than the two fishermen, and for sure an important potential for the reproduction stock of groupers in the area. I do understand fishing, as a hobby or sport, but why, in the holy name of TV entertainment, catch and kill such a specimen of the future?
