Saltwater Fishing: How long should my leader be?

Posted on Oct 14, 2009 under Saltwater Fishing | 3 Comments

Im going to be fishing for redfish snook and trout.(inshore of docks) ALSO how much of a test line should it be (pounds)

I usually use about one and a half to two foot of mono. i also use 30lb to 40lb leader. also the best bait is small finger mullet or descent sized live shrimp medium to large size.

1 1/2 or 2ft of 25 to 30 lb florocarbon. You could actually get away with not using a leader for reds and trout if you needed to but snook have really abrasive mouths

You should not need a leader and use 15lb mono would certainly cover whatever you will be going for off the docks.
If you are going to use a shock leader about 2 foot in length and use something like greased weasel, it is tough and does not get snagged as much as others, bit tougher to tie for knots but for knots if you are unsure go to http://www.netknots.com
